BIO: Lana Del Rey, born Elizabeth Grant on June 21, 1986, is a singer/songwriter hailing from Lake Placid, NY. Lana lived in Lake Placid up until she was 15 years old, when her father, domain investor Rob Grant sent her to boarding school in Connecticut.
Lana has been pursuing music since she was a teenager, with a brief stint as part of the band, Lizzy Grant and the Phenomena. After issues with her management team regarding her desire to form a band, it was finally decided that Lana would become a solo act. As Lizzy Grant, she released an EP in 2008 titled Kill Kill, which eventually led to the production of a full length solo self-titled debut that was briefly released in January 2010.
She re-emerged with a new stage name, Lana Del Rey. Her first official release under the Lana Del Rey moniker was “Video Games”, a gorgeous, melancholic number made up of delicate strings and bittersweet lyrics, detailing the delusions and trials of a one-sided love.
Critically acclaimed and a hit on the charts, “Video Games” catapulted Lana to instant success, with countless magazine covers and a worldwide mini tour coming to fruition. Since then, Lana has released two more singles, the infectious “Blue Jeans” and the incredible “Born to Die”, all leading to the January 2012 release of her debut album, also titled Born to Die.
With high profile performances ranging from a gig at the Chateau Marmont to a future appearence on Saturday Night Live, as well as articles on media mavens such as NME and Pitchfork, one thing’s for sure: Lana Del Rey is set for world domination.
